Málaga quickly became one of my favorite cities in Spain, thanks to its vibrant culture and rich traditions. During my visit, I enjoyed a perfect blend of relaxation by the coast and immersive experiences that deepened my appreciation for the local language and customs.
My time in Málaga mixed relaxed coastal vibes with some truly memorable food. One sunny afternoon at La Misericordia Beach, the sound of the waves and the long stretch of sand felt like the perfect break from daily routines. The place had a local, unpolished feel that made it genuinely peaceful.
Hungry from the sea air, I headed to Chiringuito El Tintero, an iconic beachfront restaurant known not just for its seafood but for the way it’s served—straight from waiters calling out dishes like a culinary auction. The grilled sardines were smoky and fresh, cooked right on the beach. It was casual, loud, chaotic—and completely unforgettable.
Walking along Calle Larios, Málaga’s busy main shopping street, felt like entering a lively mix of modern Spanish fashion and local style. The wide pedestrian avenue is full of popular Spanish chain stores that highlight the country’s chic and accessible look. I browsed shops like Mango and Massimo Dutti. Massimo Dutti, at the south end of the street, has a large, elegant space that feels like a fashion haven.
For those who love lingerie shopping, Calle Larios doesn’t disappoint. The street is a treasure trove of women’s lingerie brands, with well-known names like Women’s Secret, Victoria’s Secret, Oysho, and Tezenis all conveniently close to one another. Whether you’re looking for everyday essentials or something a little more special, this area offers a wide variety of choices to suit every taste.
If Zara is on your list, a quick detour to Calle Liborio García—just a left turn as you walk up Calle Larios—will lead you straight to a flagship Zara store. Adding to the street’s appeal, higher-end Spanish brand Adolfo Domínguez offers a more refined shopping experience, blending perfectly with the diverse retail scene.
Strolling through Calle Larios felt like a great way to experience Málaga’s blend of modern commerce and Andalusian charm, with something to suit every style and budget.
Exploring the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Málaga was a highlight of my trip. I loved wandering through the diverse galleries, where each exhibit offered a fresh perspective on modern creativity. The vibrant, thought-provoking artworks sparked my curiosity and gave me a deeper appreciation for Málaga’s thriving contemporary art scene. The space itself was airy and inviting, making it the perfect place to slow down, reflect, and soak in some culture away from the bustling city streets.
Later, I dined at Restaurant Perro Viejo, where the vibe was more modern and urban. The menu was creative yet deeply rooted in Andalusian flavors. Every dish felt like a story—bold, expressive, and deeply satisfying. The contrast between the rustic beachside energy of El Tintero and the refined edge of Perro Viejo perfectly captured the spirit of Málaga: traditional, yet evolving.
